The Billionaire's Dilemma

Chapter 33: Gaining Allies

Julian sat in his office, the city lights flickering behind him as he studied the flash drive Emily had given him. The evidence against Marcus was damning clear proof of financial manipulation through shell companies. If this got out, Marcus wouldn't just lose his position he could face criminal charges.

But Julian knew exposing him wouldn't be easy. Marcus had been by his side for years, and a public scandal would shake Blackwood Enterprises to its core.

A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. Emily stepped in, her expression tense.

"You've been quiet," she said, closing the door behind her. "What's your plan?"

Julian leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled. "We can't move too fast. If Marcus senses we're coming for him, he'll bury the rest of the evidence."

Emily crossed her arms, frustration flashing in her eyes. "So, what? We sit back while he continues his schemes?"

"No," Julian said firmly. "We're going to push him but carefully."

She let out a breath, trying to temper her impatience. "And if he comes after me? After us?"

His expression softened as he stood and crossed the room. "I won't let that happen. I promise."

Emily wanted to believe him, but Marcus wasn't the type to back down without a fight. And with each step they took, the risks grew.

Later that evening, Julian made a call. If he was going to take Marcus down, he needed leverage someone who knew his weaknesses.

When the line connected, a smooth voice answered. "Julian Blackwood. It's been a while."

"I need information," Julian said, cutting to the chase. "On Marcus."

The voice on the other end chuckled softly. "You're finally turning on your golden boy? This must be serious."

"It is."

A pause. Then "Meet me tomorrow. Same place as before."

Julian hung up, his jaw tight. Reaching out to old allies was a risk but it was one he had to take.

The next day, Emily followed a lead of her own. She met with a source connected to the Arcturus Project, hoping to uncover the final piece of the puzzle.

"You didn't hear this from me," the source whispered, sliding a folder across the table. "But Marcus isn't working alone. Someone else is pulling strings from the shadows."

Her blood ran cold. If Marcus wasn't the mastermind who was?

As she walked out into the cool night air, her phone buzzed with a message from Julian.

"I found someone who can help. But this is going to get dangerous are you ready?"

Emily stared at the message, knowing there was no turning back.

"I'm ready."
