The Devil CEO’s Reborn Lover

Chapter 29: I Won’t Let Go of You

The morning sun barely filtered through the curtains when Qin Yanzhou's phone buzzed on the nightstand. Wu Mei stirred beside him, her arms wrapped gently around his chest. He groaned softly, trying to ignore the vibration, but the caller was persistent.

With a sigh, he reached for the phone and answered it without looking at the caller ID. "Hello?"

An angry voice exploded from the speaker. "Yao Ran almost died! How can you sleep right now?!"

Qin Yanzhou blinked. "Who is Yao Ran? Is she alive or dead? And what's it got to do with me? Why can't I sleep?"

The voice snapped, "Come to the hospital. Now." Then the line went dead.

Wu Mei opened her eyes, sensing something wrong. "Hmm? What is it?" she asked sleepily.

He looked at her, still annoyed by the call but comforted by her presence. He leaned in and kissed her forehead softly. "Baby," he murmured, then kissed her nose. "Wife," he added with a kiss on her lips.

She smiled. "What happened?"

"Grandpa called," he muttered. "He wants me to go to the hospital. Something about Yao Ran."

"Then... you should go."

He groaned. "I don't want to. But... do you want to come with me?"

She nodded. "Umm, okay."

They quickly dressed and got into the car. The driver pulled up in front of the hospital. Qin Yanzhou's assistant hurried over, respectfully opening the doors for both of them. Wu Mei hesitated before stepping out.

"Maybe it's better if I don't go in," she said. "Your grandpa doesn't really like me."

Qin Yanzhou took her hand gently. "It doesn't matter if she likes you or not. What matters is that I love you. I love you, Wu Mei. I can't live without you."

Before Wu Mei could respond, the hospital doors swung open and his grandfather stormed out.

The old man's expression darkened when he saw her. "Yao Ran doesn't want to see her. She doesn't have to come upstairs."

Qin Yanzhou frowned. "Is Grandpa confused? Wu Mei is my wife. If she doesn't have to go up, then I guess I don't have to go up either."

His grandfather scowled. "In that case, divorce her."

Wu Mei's heart clenched. (And marry Yao Ran? I'd never thought I'd have to do it all over again... What should have happened is still going to happen, she thought.)

But Qin Yanzhou stood firm. "I'm afraid I've let you down, Grandpa. But I'm not getting divorced."

"Why not?!"

"Because I'm sick," he said quietly.

The old man blinked. "What's wrong with you? Have you seen a doctor?"

"I have a disease," he said, wrapping his arm protectively around Wu Mei's waist. "I'll die without her."

Wu Mei looked up at him, eyes wide.

His grandfather stepped aside, watching them with narrowed eyes.

Qin Yanzhou took a deep breath. "I'll tell you the truth, Grandpa. I had a dream the other day. If I'm not with Wu Mei, I'll die. We are together, and we will live together."

"Jokes. Lies," the old man spat.

"Fine," Qin Yanzhou said. "I'll go up. But I'm not divorcing Wu Mei."

There was a long silence. Finally, the old man grunted. "Fine. Don't divorce. I will accept Wu Mei."

Qin Yanzhou didn't wait. He turned to Wu Mei, took her hand, and led her out of the hospital.

But as they walked to the car, a familiar voice called out.

"Qin Yanzhou!"

They turned to see He Sheng approaching with a confident smirk.

"Do you dare race me?" he challenged. "Let's see who's truly worthy of Wu Mei."

Qin Yanzhou smirked. "Can you even drive?"

"I'm the two-time street racing champion."

"Fine," Qin Yanzhou said, voice cold. "If I win, you stay away from Wu Mei forever."

"Deal."

Soon after, they arrived at the private racing ground. Engines roared in the background. Qin Yanzhou turned to Wu Mei.

"Wait for me at the finish line, okay?" he said. Then he leaned in and kissed her lips tenderly.

She held his hand tightly. "Be careful. Don't go too fast."

He smiled. "I'll win for you."

The crowd roared as the cars lined up. Wu Mei and the assistant stood near the finish line, anxious.

The flag dropped.

Engines screamed to life. Tires screeched. Qin Yanzhou surged ahead, skillfully maneuvering each curve with perfect precision. He Sheng tried to overtake him on a sharp turn but lost control.

Wu Mei gasped as He Sheng's car spun out and slammed into a stack of tires, crashing violently.

Qin Yanzhou crossed the finish line first.

Wu Mei ran to him as he stepped out of the car.

"You scared me!" she cried, hugging him tightly. "You were going too fast."

"I'm fine," he assured her, holding her close. Then he picked her up in his arms and carried her to their car.

"Let's go home," he said with a smile.

She rested her head on his shoulder. "Mhm. Home with you."

And as they drove off, He Sheng was left behind—defeated, broken, and watching the woman he could never have disappear into the night with the man who had truly won her heart.

As they drove through the city lights, Wu Mei rested her head on his shoulder. "Thank you... for defending me today. Again."

"There's no need to thank me," he said. "You're mine. I'll always protect you."

She smiled. "Even against your family?"

He chuckled. "Even against the world."

At home, he tucked her in bed and kissed her temple. "Sleep, wife. Tomorrow, or do you want me to..."

Wu Mei looked up at him with wide eyes. " No, I'll sleep."

Qin Yanzhou nodded "Ok, good night wife."and he press a kiss to her lips.

She held his hand tightly. " Good night honey."and she sleep in his arms.

And in the silence of their shared warmth, the two fell asleep, knowing that no matter what awaited them, they would face it together.

What do you think that will happen in chapter 30?
