Chapter 30: I Watched You Dance, Now I Want More
The sunlight streamed gently through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the room. Qin Yanzhou stirred first, blinking against the morning light. The events of the previous day replayed briefly in his mind—the race, Wu Mei's embrace. A small smile played on his lips as he turned to look at the woman sleeping beside him.
She looked peaceful, her dark hair splayed over the pillow, lips slightly parted. He reached out to tuck a strand behind her ear. Not long after, Wu Mei stirred, her lashes fluttering before her eyes opened slowly. Their gazes met, and warmth passed between them in silence.
"I'll go take a shower," Wu Mei murmured with a sleepy smile, stretching.
"Okay," Yanzhou said, watching her with soft eyes.
Minutes later, he heard a sharp thud followed by the sound of something shifting. His body tensed instantly.
"Wu Mei?" he called, his voice filled with alarm.
No answer.
He rushed toward the bathroom. The door was ajar, and as he pushed it open, he found her clutching the towel rack for support, wrapped in a towel. Her leg was trembling slightly.
"Wu Mei, did you slip? Did you break your ankle?"
She looked up, startled but managed a small smile. "Just slipped a little."
Without waiting for another word, Qin Yanzhou walked forward and scooped her into his arms.
"Hey!" she protested softly, but leaned into his warmth. He carried her out gently, laying her down on the bed with care.
"But how do you know I slipped?" she asked, still cradled in his lap.
"I heard you," he said simply. "Let me see."
He examined her ankle, gently brushing his fingers along the skin. "I'm glad you're okay."
He looked into her eyes. "Next time when you go into the shower, remember to wear slippers. Don't go barefoot."
Wu Mei tilted her head slightly, her lips curving. "I'm fine. You're just worried about me."
"What else?" Yanzhou smirked. "Do you think I'd peek at you in the shower?"
She raised an eyebrow, amused. "So, did you peek?"
He glanced left, then right with an exaggerated expression before smirking. "What do you think? I want to see you take a shower. Do I have to sneak around?"
"Well," she said, narrowing her eyes, "you can't. Not without my permission."
Yanzhou leaned closer. "Then I've seen it. What can Wu Mei do to me?"
She placed her hands around his neck playfully. "What? You…"
"I watched it openly," he teased, voice low, leaning in.
Their faces inched closer. Their breaths mingled. Just as their lips were about to touch, Yanzhou's phone buzzed loudly.
Wu Mei pulled back with a small laugh. "Answer it."
He glanced at the screen and tossed it aside. "I have other things to do."
He captured her lips in a deep kiss, his hands cupping her cheeks. Her body melted into his, heart thundering in her chest.
After a moment, Wu Mei broke the kiss with a soft gasp. "It's morning."
"So what?" he murmured, eyes still closed, breath warm against her skin.
"I... I have to prepare for the dance competition today," she said, brushing her hair back.
Qin Yanzhou sighed dramatically and rolled onto the bed beside her. "It couldn't wait, huh?"
She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "Do you want to see me dance?"
He turned to look at her seriously. "Wu Mei will dance for me?"
"If you want to see it."
"I do," he whispered, capturing her lips again.
Later, Wu Mei stood in the middle of the room, wearing a soft lavender dress. She had tied her hair in a loose bun, her bare feet moving gracefully across the wooden floor. Qin Yanzhou sat on the couch, mesmerized.
Her movements were smooth, flowing like water. The fabric of her dress fluttered with every turn. Her arms painted invisible shapes in the air, and her expression was full of emotion—longing, strength, vulnerability.
Qin Yanzhou watched her with unblinking intensity. Wu Mei... finally, I can watch you dance. To see you dance for once...
He smiled to himself, feeling something inside him stir.
As her dance slowed and she reached the final pose, Wu Mei walked over, breath slightly fast from the exertion. She sat herself gently in his lap, arms draping over his shoulders.
"Do you want to kiss me?" she asked teasingly.
Yanzhou closed his eyes. "I'm dying to."
Wu Mei placed a finger on his lips. "Then…"
Just as he leaned in, she smirked, pushed herself up, and stepped away.
Yanzhou opened his eyes slowly. "You're teasing me?"
She giggled. "Maybe."
He stood up as well, cornering her gently against the wall. "You think you can tease me and walk away and not finish what you started?"
"I didn't promise anything."
"You said 'if I want it'—and I did."
"But you didn't say what comes after."
He leaned in close, pressing his forehead to hers. "Then let me show you what comes after."
She laughed softly, but didn't move. They stood in that quiet closeness, breathing in each other's presence.
Just as things were growing intense again, her stomach growled.
Yanzhou blinked.
Wu Mei blushed. "I haven't eaten yet."
He chuckled and took her hand. "Come on, let's feed you first before I starve."
She blinked. "You?"
"Starve from not being able to kiss you properly."
Laughing together, they left the room, hand in hand, hearts warm.
And then Qin Yuanzhou went to cook breakfast while Wu Mei was sitting at the table, Wu Mei told him if he wanted to help him but Qin Yuanzhou said he wants to cook.
After the meal was ready Qin Yuanzhou sat at the table and they both started eating. After they finished eating Qin Yuanzhou and Wu Mei gathered the meal, and after went to rest a little on the couch and for a while Qin Yuanzhou remembered how Wu Mei tease him and he thought about doing the same.
What do you think that will happen in chapter 31?
