Chapter 31: Good Girl in His Arms
Qin Yanzhou stood up with a gleam in his eyes. Without saying a word, he reached for Wu Mei's hand and gently lifted her up. Spinning her once in a graceful pirouette, he caught her swiftly in his arms, their bodies pressed close. His gaze dropped to her waist, lingering.
"The star on your waist," he said softly, his voice warm and low, "It's not shining anymore."
Before Wu Mei could respond, Qin Yanzhou leaned in and placed a delicate kiss on the star tattooed on her waist, then kissed the back of her hand, and then her shoulder. She shivered slightly under his touch, her heartbeat quickening.
With a sudden burst of energy, Qin Yanzhou pulled her into a dance. They moved around the room like a scene from a dream, his hands firm on her waist, guiding her gracefully as if they were performing on an elegant stage.
As the dance grew more heated and Wu Mei's breathing deepened, he scooped her up and carried her to the couch. Laying her down gently, he brushed a strand of hair from her face and whispered, "My beautiful wife... I want to kiss you. I'm dying to kiss you."
Wu Mei held a teasing smile. "Shh... Be a good boy."
When she tried to get up, he kissed her forehead, then her lips, lingering there.
"You... Don't be a hooligan," she muttered breathlessly.
"I'm not a hooligan. I'm your husband," Qin Yanzhou grinned wickedly. "That gives me every right."
He didn't wait for her comeback. He kissed her again, deeply, then scooped her up from the couch. Her arms wrapped around his neck, her legs curling around his waist, and he carried her straight to the bed.
"There are still two hours before the dance competition," he murmured with a sly smirk.
Tying her wrists loosely with his silk tie, he traced kisses along her neck, her collarbone, and lower. Wu Mei's soft moans filled the room. They tangled together, limbs and whispers, until they both fell asleep in each other's arms.
---
When they finally woke up, the sun was already high. They got ready quickly and headed to the dance competition. Wu Mei wore a stunning, elegant outfit with sparkling detail on the waist where the little star rested.
But as they walked into the venue, they saw someone unexpected—Wu Yue and He Sheng.
Wu Yue had clearly undergone cosmetic surgery to repair her previously disfigured face. She looked at Wu Mei with sharp disdain.
"Someone like you wants to compete in a dance competition?" Wu Yue sneered. "You don't even know how to dance."
Wu Mei gave a calm smile. "And since when do you know what I can or cannot do?"
Before more could be said, an announcer's voice echoed. "Next participant, Wu Yue, please come to the stage."
Wu Yue walked up proudly, performing a routine she believed would win. But though her moves were polished, there was no passion, no soul.
Then it was Wu Mei's turn.
When she stepped onto the stage, the entire room quieted. The music began, and Wu Mei moved like the embodiment of grace and fire. Her dance was mesmerizing—fluid, precise, powerful. People couldn't look away.
Qin Yanzhou watched her with his heart racing. Wu Mei… my beautiful wife is dancing, she will definitely win.
She finished with a spin and dropped into a pose. The room erupted into applause. Even the judges looked stunned.
The scores came in.
Wu Mei won.
Wu Yue stared, wide-eyed and speechless. "She cheated! She must have! No one dances like that without cheating!"
Wu Mei stepped down from the stage calmly. "How could I cheat? Everyone was watching."
The crowd murmured in agreement.
Wu Mei walked up to Wu Yue and, without warning, slapped her hard across the face. The sound echoed.
"Don't judge someone just because you lost," Wu Mei said coldly.
Wu Yue turned desperately to He Sheng. "Say something!"
But He Sheng didn't even look at her. His silence spoke louder than any words.
Qin Yanzhou took Wu Mei's hand. "Let's go."
They left the venue, Wu Mei holding her head high. As they walked down the street, Wu Mei saw a cozy little street food restaurant.
"Can we stop here to eat? I'm starving."
Qin Yanzhou smiled. "Of course."
They sat down, ordered skewers, noodles, and two drinks. When the food came, Wu Mei ate happily and took generous sips of the rice wine. Soon, her cheeks flushed, and her words began to slur.
"Yangzhou… I… I think I'm a little tipsy."
"A little?" Qin Yanzhou chuckled.
When she stood up, she wobbled, and he quickly caught her. "Okay, that's it. Come here."
With a swift motion, he carried her on his back, Wu Mei giggling the whole way.
"You're strong," she murmured into his neck. "You smell nice…"
"That's the wine talking," he teased, adjusting her.
They arrived home, and he laid her gently on the bed. He turned to go prepare some ginger soup, but her hand suddenly latched onto his wrist.
"Don't go," she whispered, tugging him onto the bed.
"Be a good girl, wait here," he coaxed.
Wu Mei let him go with a pout. Soon, he returned with a small bowl of hot ginger soup and sat beside her, lifting a spoon to her lips.
"Drink. It'll help."
She took a sip. Then another.
"Good girl," Qin Yanzhou said softly, brushing her hair from her eyes.
She blinked up at him, her lips curving into a lazy smile.
"You're always so good to me."
He chuckled, holding her hand. "Because you're mine. Always."
Wu Mei snuggled closer, resting her head on his shoulder, warm and comforted, the afterglow of the competition and his love still surrounding her.
To be continued...
