The Devil CEO’s Reborn Lover

Chapter 40: Relic Discovery

The tension of the day still hung in the air as Qin Yangzhou's firm grip slowly released from Wu Mei's wrist, the cold clink of the handcuffs echoing between them. Wu Mei rubbed her wrist slightly and picked up her phone. She quickly called Mo Qing, stepping a little away but still under the sharp gaze of Qin Yangzhou.

"Mo Qing," she said softly. "I'll come... but I have to bring him too. He won't let me go alone."

On the other end, Mo Qing's voice was calm. "It's okay. Bring him. Maybe it's safer this way."

Wu Mei nodded silently, her eyes meeting Qin Yangzhou's. Without another word, he walked over and clicked the cuffs back on both their wrists. This time, gentler—but firm. Possessive.

"Let's go," he said, voice low.

The ride in the car was quiet. Wu Mei leaned her head gently on Qin Yangzhou's shoulder, her lashes fluttering closed briefly. His body was warm beside her, his scent surrounding her like a cage and a comfort all at once. She didn't speak, and neither did he. But his hand never let go of hers.

When they reached the edge of the forest, Qin Yangzhou helped Wu Mei out of the car. They walked side by side into the thick, quiet woods. Sunlight filtered through the canopy above, casting golden light on the forest floor. Soon, Mo Qing's wooden cottage appeared in sight.

Wu Mei tugged gently at the handcuff, trying to approach Mo Qing. "Can I...?" she whispered, giving him a pleading look.

He frowned. "Don't think this means I trust you."

She didn't respond, but her eyes softened. Qin Yangzhou sighed and unlocked one side of the cuffs, freeing her. "Don't run," he warned.

"I won't," she said, and walked quickly toward Mo Qing.

The two women embraced briefly, then began chatting. Their laughter filled the quiet air as they started down the familiar, moss-covered stone steps. The tunnel loomed dark ahead, but Mo Qing lit a lantern and led the way.

For thirty long minutes, they walked in silence—Qin Yangzhou close behind Wu Mei, his hand never far from her back. At last, the tunnel opened up into the underground field again. The hidden house stood just as they'd left it.

As they approached, Wu Mei's ring began to glow with a faint, ethereal shimmer.

"It's doing it again," she whispered, lifting her hand.

Qin Yangzhou moved closer, slipping his arm around her waist protectively. "Stay by my side."

She nodded. Together with Mo Qing, they stepped into the hidden house. Dust covered the floorboards and the air smelled old. Inside, Wu Mei and Mo Qing searched through the shelves and drawers, looking for anything new.

"Over here!" Mo Qing called, holding up an old scroll. It unfolded into a detailed map of something far wider than they'd imagined. Possibly the entire underground network.

Wu Mei was still exploring when she spotted a small box—locked and resting in the corner. As she neared it, her ring flared red.

"What is this..." she murmured. She hesitated a moment, then brought her hand close. The moment the ring touched the lock, there was a faint click.

The box creaked open.

Inside was a beautiful bracelet—intricate, laced with red and gold threads—and a sealed letter.

"Strange," Mo Qing muttered. "It reacted to your ring."

Without thinking too much, Wu Mei slipped the bracelet onto her wrist. It fit perfectly. Then, she quickly hid the letter in her coat pocket.

"We should come back soon," Mo Qing said. "It's getting late."

They made their way back the same way they came—through the tunnels, the long stairs, and finally back to the surface. The sky had already begun to darken.

Wu Mei hugged Mo Qing goodbye, promising to return soon.

Once inside the car, Qin Yangzhou's eyes flicked to the bracelet on her wrist.

"What is that?" he asked.

Wu Mei looked down and smiled. "It's pretty. And it matches the ring."

He didn't look convinced. "Is it dangerous?"

"I don't think so," she replied gently. "It feels... familiar."

When they reached home, Qin Yangzhou scooped her up into his arms as if she were made of porcelain and laid her on their bed.

"You never stop making me worry," he murmured.

They both took a shower, the warm water cascading down their bodies, washing away the dust and the tension of the day. Afterward, Wu Mei changed into a soft robe while Qin Yangzhou dressed in loose, dark clothes. He pulled the comforter over them both.

"Are you still angry?" she asked quietly.

He didn't respond at first. Then he said, "No. Just afraid. Of losing you. Of you walking into danger again."

She rested her head on his chest, her fingers tracing small circles over his shirt. "I didn't mean to hurt you."

His arms tightened around her. "Just stay. That's all I want."

She nodded and closed her eyes, the weight of the bracelet and the ring grounding her in the moment.

But in her pocket, the letter remained unopened—waiting.

And though the night wrapped around them like silk, the secrets they had uncovered were far from done.

Qin Yangzhou wrapped his arms around Wu Mei waist and whisper in sleep " I'll never let you go, I love you" and his grip on Wu Mei waist gripen.

Tomorrow, Wu Mei knew, would bring new questions—and perhaps, more answers and maybe that Qin Yangzhou angry will fade away.

To be continued....

What do you think that will happen in chapter 41? Will Wu Mei discover new secrets about the ring and the house, maybe in the house exists a hidden place with more secrets or the map will guide them to a new world. And Mo Qing will discover for what the map is used.
