Chapter 55:
Chapter 55: Her Grandma Had My Mom at Forty:
“So, you’re Yuxi’s classmate?”
Xia Sha looked ‘Wang Cheng’ up and down.
She had to admit, this kid looked decent—at least good enough for her niece.
After all, in all the years she had known Lan Yuxi, this was the first time her niece had ever praised a boy and even begged her to let him work at the restaurant.
Seeing Lan Yuxi’s aunt in person, Qi Lin was momentarily stunned.
He had assumed she would be at least in her thirties, if not over forty.
He never expected her to look so young.
Her smooth, fair skin and elegant demeanor made it clear that Xia Sha couldn’t be more than thirty.
She wore a dark green cheongsam that highlighted her curves, her long hair cascading over her shoulders with two small buns tied at the sides.
Her delicate face resembled Lan Yuxi’s, but she had her own unique charm.
If she had been wearing white knee-high socks, Qi Lin might have mistaken her for a certain anime character from his past life.
“Yeah, that’s me—Wang Cheng.”
Qi Lin smiled, a knowing glint in his eyes.
“Yuxi never mentioned she had such a beautiful aunt. If I’d known, I would’ve come to meet you sooner.”
‘Wang Cheng’ grinned shamelessly.
The slight smile on Xia Sha’s face disappeared instantly. Her first impression of him had just plummeted.
This kid was just here to work part-time.
Sure, he might know Yuxi, but they had no personal connection.
Who gave him the confidence to call her aunt so familiarly?
“I’m Yuxi’s grandma’s youngest daughter. Her grandma had me at forty, so I’m not much older than Yuxi.”
Since Lan Yuxi had put in a word for him, Xia Sha gave him this brief explanation—but nothing more.
“Alright, since you’re here, get to work.”
“I took a few days off recently, so the restaurant has gotten a bit dusty. Wipe down all the tables and clean the floors.”
After saying that, Xia Sha returned to the cashier’s counter.
“Here, take these.”
The waitress from earlier handed ‘Wang Cheng’ a rag and a bucket of water.
“We need to hurry and get everything spotless before we open for the day.”
But ‘Wang Cheng’ made no move to take the cleaning supplies. Instead, he lazily asked, “It’s still early, and no customers are here. Why the rush? We can clean later.”
The waitress stared at him in disbelief.
Was this guy here to work or take a vacation?
“Our restaurant serves breakfast as well. If we don’t clean now and customers start complaining, what do we do?”
She explained patiently, though her frustration was evident.
Hearing that the restaurant served breakfast, ‘Wang Cheng’ suddenly perked up.
“Perfect! I haven’t eaten yet. Can I get some food before I start working?”
The waitress: “…”
“We don’t provide breakfast for employees. Everyone eats before coming to work.”
“Besides, our breakfast menu is made from premium ingredients. It’s not cheap. We can’t just hand out free meals.”
The waitress rubbed her temples, feeling utterly exhausted from dealing with this guy.
“How am I supposed to work on an empty stomach? This place is so stingy. Hey, pretty lady, ever thought about quitting?”
Qi Lin clicked his tongue, shaking his head dramatically.
The waitress had officially lost all patience.
She shoved the rag and bucket into his hands and walked off to clean the other tables.
Qi Lin glanced at the cleaning supplies, chuckled, and followed after her.
As she wiped down a table, he reached out and accidentally brushed her hand.
“Ahh! What are you doing?!”
The waitress yelped, eyes wide in alarm.
“What do you mean? I’m cleaning, just like you.”
“But I have to say, your hands are really soft, miss.”
‘Wang Cheng’ smirked and even brought his hand to his nose, sniffing it theatrically like a complete pervert.
“Ugh!”
The waitress couldn’t take it anymore. Tears welled up in her eyes as she stormed off to complain.
“Boss, I can’t work with him! He keeps harassing me!”
She cried as she complained to Xia Sha.
Xia Sha had already noticed what was going on.
But since ‘Wang Cheng’ had been recommended by Lan Yuxi, she couldn’t just kick him out immediately.
“Fine, you go clean the second and third floors. Let him stay on the first floor.”
She sighed, feeling a headache coming on.
At the same time, she couldn’t help but wonder: Yuxi never had bad judgment before. How could she be friends with such a lazy, sleazy guy?
The waitress shot ‘Wang Cheng’ a glare before heading upstairs.
With no more chances to mess with her, Qi Lin shrugged and started ‘working.’
But rather than actually cleaning, he just swiped the rag over each table half-heartedly.
Watching from the cashier’s counter, Xia Sha’s eyebrow twitched.
Clearly, he wasn’t doing anything useful.
“Boss, we’re here for breakfast. The usual—steamed shrimp dumplings, spare ribs, glutinous rice dumplings, molten egg tarts, stir-fried noodles, crispy shrimp rolls, and longan rice porridge.”
A few middle-aged men in suits walked in and ordered a large spread of dim sum.
Oh, right—Xia Sha’s restaurant specialized in Cantonese-style breakfast.
“Wang Cheng, stop cleaning and go help in the kitchen.”
Since his cleaning was useless, Xia Sha decided to at least make him useful by running food.
“Got it, Auntie!”
Qi Lin had long since gotten bored of pretending to clean.
He shot Xia Sha a playful wink before dashing off toward the kitchen.
Xia Sha: “…”
