The Rise of Victoria Seras

Chapter 55: 55. The Failure of the Round Table

Chapter 55

I spent the entire flight to my destination pretending to be asleep, it would have been awkward if my promise to Integra had been broken because the pilot was scared shitless of me. The flight wasn't too long, though. After only 20 minutes, we landed on a hill overlooking a huge stone castle that was hundreds of years old.

After leaving the helicopter, I looked at this structure with some admiration, after all, I really love fantasy, and what is fantasy without royal castles and the like?

- This is the first time I've seen something like this in real life. - I smiled a little. Finding another pleasant moment of my rebirth. Yes, I could also just teleport directly to various sights, but then I would most likely get satiated with impressions too quickly, and I still have a very long life ahead of me.

While I was thinking, someone touched my shoulder and I glanced in his direction. It was Arthur, but even he was startled by how abruptly I turned.

- S-sorry, I didn't mean to bother you, – the guy said.

- It's okay. It's just the first time I've seen a castle like this. It's amazing how hundreds of years ago people could do something like this without today's technology.

- For the first time? I thought you'd seen a lot.

"Why?" I asked, confused.

- Since you're a vampire, I thought you survived those times.

- Pff! Hahahahahahahaha! - I laughed, and squeezed out a question. - How old do you think I am?

- I-I honestly don't know. About the same as Alucard? - Arthur scratched his head.

- Not even a close friend. - I patted him on the shoulder, accidentally causing him to fall.

- Ouch. That actually hurts, - Arthur said, rubbing his shoulder awkwardly.

- Sorry. I just can't believe you thought that. Alucard, he's Dracula, he's too old! - I exclaimed, and meanwhile, somewhere in the basements of Hellsing, the vampire king felt an inexplicable irritation.

- Um... Dracula? - the confused guy asked again, and then shook his head and asked another question. - Wait... How old are you then?

"Didn't they teach you that it's rude to ask a girl's age?" I asked mockingly, and then smiled and answered before walking away in the direction of the castle, where, oddly enough, the presence of a vampire was actually felt. "I'm much younger than you think."

"How does she move so fast just by walking?" Arthur wondered, watching as I covered at least twice the distance with each step.

"Why are you so surprised Wilson? Is this your first time on a mission with a vampire?" Another soldier asked Arthur.

- Uh... actually yes.

- Don't worry. You'll get used to it, just like me. You won't believe the things Hellsing vampires did during missions. - The man smirked.

- Speaking of vampires, do you know how old she is?

- Well... - the man hesitated, and traces of shame flashed across his face. - I actually heard about her when she was alive. She's the youngest female police officer in our city for a long time. She was 19 when she was recently turned into a vampire.

- Wait, so she's a teenager?! - Arthur exclaimed.

- Oh, keep it down. I felt uneasy myself when I realized this, but the way she walked out of the building completely covered in blood and pieces of entrails completely knocked out any sympathy towards her. - The man quickly leaned Arthur towards himself and whispered.

"But it was the blood of enemies, so what difference does it make?" Arthur asked, also in a whisper.

- The main thing is don't say it in front of others, they don't care who she was. They already look at you askance because of your attitude, be careful not to run into trouble, - the soldier advised.

- Cattle, Wilson! Stop whispering and get moving! - the lieutenant barked.

- How interesting... - I muttered, hearing the conversation behind me. I honestly thought that with the exception of Arthur, all the soldiers hated me, but as it turned out, there are those who are neutral and, if I understood correctly, even a little ashamed of their attitude. - It seems I was a little biased.

We were already close to the entrance of the castle, when suddenly behind us we heard the sound of flying helicopters, as well as at least ten cars filled with people.

"Who the hell is this?" the lieutenant hissed irritably.

"Don't they realize they might scare off the vampires?" the soldier grumbled.

- Oh, shit, - the lieutenant cursed when he saw who had arrived. - That's enough. We have to go back.

- But sir?

- Just do as you're told. These are the soldiers of the Round Table. They have first priority in attacking the vampires until Hellsing recovers. - Fox gritted his teeth.

- What should we do?

"We're heading back to Hellsing," the Lieutenant said before turning to the others. "There's a silver lining to this, guys. It's a great day when we can come back with 0% casualties on a mission." His words caused a wave of laughter from the soldiers.

Returning to the transport, we saw the arrivals leaving their transport. Each of them had one rather nasty trait, excessive arrogance, not backed up by force.

"Arrogant pieces of dirt," I said, to my surprise the other soldiers echoed.

Meanwhile, one of the arriving soldiers approached us.

- Well, well, well. Aren't these Hellsing soldiers? - the man asked mockingly, but in response he received only complete disregard and continued movement.

- It must be hard to be fired like that. But then again, if someone had failed the way you did, I'd be grateful I had any work at all. - His words made his companions laugh as they approached.

- Bastards! - burst out from an angry Arthur.

- Hm? Well, at least one of you has balls. But I don't like being insulted. - The soldier pointed his gun right at Arthur's face, to which Arthur didn't even bat an eyelid.

- Oh. You didn't even flinch. And in vain, I don't mind allowing a small "accident." - the soldier began waving his pistol in Arthur's face.

"Hey," I called to him.

- Wow, what a beauty, - the man exclaimed.

"Go do your job," I said, looking him in the eyes, after which his pupils briefly turned red, and then he turned around.

- Come on guys, let's show these losers how to do a job.

After waiting for the newcomers to leave, I turned to the Lieutenant, who, although he didn't like me, was quite pleased with how I had handled the situation.

- Lieutenant, if what I felt from the castle is true, then we don't have to leave, they will all die. - I said with a grim smile.

"What do you mean, Officer Victoria?" the man asked in a reserved tone.

- There inside, not those weak copies made by the enemy that attacked us. There in the castle, is a real vampire. - I answered with anticipation.

"Are you sure?" Fox asked more informally, slightly nervous.

- Yes. - I nodded, and then added. - Don't worry, I won't let any of you die when they're lying around, I'll personally go and get rid of the evil spirits.

- …Okay. I'm counting on you.
