The Serpent’s Heir

Chapter 28: Chapter 26: The Pact He Never Made

Harry woke up in the infirmary.

He didn't remember collapsing.

Didn't remember screaming.

But Madam Pomfrey said his skin had gone cold — like stone left in the rain — and his eyes had briefly turned red-gold.

The Pact Symbol Appears

On the underside of his left wrist, a new mark had formed overnight.

Not like the others.

This one looked like a broken ring — two halves refusing to meet.

Rowan stood beside his bed, pale.

"That's not Selene's," she whispered."It's not Kaelen's either."

"That's a pact seal."

Theo explained what that meant:A bond between a mortal and something ancient. Usually voluntary.

Harry hadn't agreed to anything.

But the seal still burned.

Dumbledore's Intervention

That afternoon, Dumbledore called him into the observatory.

The air shimmered with protective wards.

"I warned the school not to open the corridor beneath the third level," the Headmaster said softly."I thought the past would sleep."

Harry didn't answer.

Dumbledore turned to face him.

"Selene sealed the door for a reason. Kaelen gave himself for a reason. But you, Harry — you were never meant to be their battlefield."

He reached out and touched the broken ring.

The seal glowed — not red. Not green.

But silver.

"Then what am I?" Harry whispered.

Dumbledore looked at him sadly.

"You're the one who will have to choose who remains written."

The Pact Speaks

That night, as Harry tried to sleep, the mark on his wrist tightened — like something curling around his bones.

And a voice — not Kaelen's, not Selene's — whispered in his ear.

A third voice.

"You opened the door before. You just don't remember it."

"We made a pact once. You broke it.And now I'm back to collect."

Final Scene – A Door With No Handle

Harry dreamt again.

But this time, he stood before a door with no handle, no runes, no light.

Just a reflection of himself on its surface.

And that reflection smiled — and said:

"You can't seal what you've already become."

Then the door cracked down the center. And fire bled from the gap.
