Chapter 25
Chapter 25: Eevee-chan Reveals a Disdainful Expression
In general, “Magical Beasts” as the initial Mana Spirit Cards for young magi, would transform into corresponding races and attributes according to their expectations.
No matter how they changed, they remained one-star cards with all stats at 100, making them very weak. Their commemorative value far outweighed their practical significance.
When magi from Saint Maryann Academy grew stronger, they usually treated “Magical Beasts” as treasures but rarely used them in battles.
However, Dak saw possibilities from his own “Magical Beast”!
As before, “Different perceptions determine different magic.”
Perhaps this [Magical Beast: Eevee] truly had Pokémon characteristics, possessing the potential for evolution like real Pokémon?
…
While pondering, Dak observed the classroom.
Apart from Dak and Diana and Rose moving slowly like snails, all students failed their first attempt at crafting.
The complexity of “Magical Beast” creation lay in numerous steps, where any mistake could ruin everything.
Thus, meticulousness was crucial.
This was the message Professor Kazel wanted to convey.
When the end-of-class bell rang, no one else completed the task.
Rose felt disappointed and failed too.
Diana continued to advance slowly.
Professor Kazel humorously said, “Lucky you can continue crafting here until your second try fails. By the way, your homework until the next class is to complete a ‘Magical Beast.’ You can buy new materials from me—100 credits per pack!”
After packing up his textbooks, he left, leaving students with his back view.
…
So frustrating!
…
Dak didn’t leave immediately. He wanted to see others’ “Magical Beasts.”
Indeed, Emma Maltis finished second.
She succeeded just five minutes after the bell rang!
She couldn’t help smiling and glanced over.
Unlike Dak, she immediately released the “Standard Summoning Spell,” summoning her first Mana Spirit!
—A water otter!
She seemed fond of otters; this one’s teeth were larger than her familiar.
Surprisingly, the third to finish was the clumsy Diana!
“Coconut! Coconut!”
After much excitement, Diana summoned her “Magical Beast.”
—not a giant panda, but a snow-white polar bear!
It seemed she wasn’t indifferent inside, hoping to be tall and strong like a polar bear.
Dak looked at Wit and Robert.
Robert completely ruined his second set of materials before class ended.
Wit did well, nearing the final step of drawing the 1st炼成阵.
Though inexperienced, his hands were steady.
If he held a sword, there’d be no tremor.
Perhaps, this was a hero’s talent!
Around twelve minutes after class started.
Wit became the fourth person to finish in both academies!
Robert was more excited, his face and neck turning red.
Wit summoned his “Magical Beast” right after finishing!
—A glowing white buck deer!
…
“So, the guardian spirit was hiding here!”
Dak realized.
This buck deer was clearly of the Avian-beast Kin and Light Attribute, opposite to Wit’s familiar.
Strangely, Wit’s familiar, despite being the son of a hero, was also a Demon race, Dark Attribute, like Dak!
Perhaps due to rejection of Demon races, Wit seldom released his familiar, but Dak occasionally saw it—a cute Minotaur about knee-high.
Robert’s familiar was a mechanical Steel-type robot.
Its round head and multifunctional arms, along with tank treads, made it very useful.
Dak envied Robert’s intelligent robot familiar, with an intelligence level of 2.5 suitable for experiments!
…
Following Wit’s success, little Rose failed again.
She was disheartened but not too upset. Diana gave her the second set of materials, and they prepared for a third attempt together.
Since the first class starts at 1:30 PM, they had plenty of time.
…
At 12:10 PM.
After lunch, Dak returned to his bedroom.
Only then did he summon his Mana Spirit.
Mana Spirit Card: Eevee (Demon God form)!
This Eevee looked less animated and more realistic.
Its appearance resembled a fox more, with a pointed face, flowing mane, and ears that felt more “Illusory Beast.”
“Grrrii?”
It tilted its head slightly while calling out.
This youthful charm was almost overwhelming!
But with an intelligence level of 2.0, the Mana Spirit stopped there.
Dak hadn’t mastered the “Mind Summoning” yet.
After trying commands like “dodge,” “charge forward,” “lie on back showing belly,” “sit and spread legs,” and “backward jump shot,” Dak took out the precious “Arrogance I” card from his deck.
“Let’s see if I’m right. Mana Summon!”
“Arrogance I” activated!
A dark golden light ball with a long tail shot out, piercing Eevee’s forehead!
“Grrrii!”
Eevee instinctively raised a hand to cover its forehead. When it lowered it, its eyes turned cold.
Nothing to say.
Just high and mighty goddess vibes!
Dak tried petting it, but it avoided him with disdain!
Such behavior was extremely unbelievable on a Mana Spirit!
Mana Spirits with an intelligence level of 2.0 usually obeyed even wrong commands from their magus!
They wouldn’t avoid being petted!
“So, the expression of arrogance differs among individuals?”
Recalling the demonic-like arrogant expression of the Imp Beast, Dak wrote in his notebook.
“Eevee, Shadow Ball!”
Eevee-chan glared at him with disdain.
“Eevee, wag your tail!”
Eevee-chan glared at him with disdain.
“Eevee, be cute!”
Eevee-chan glared at him with disdain.
…
“The essence of the Mana Spirit Card hasn’t changed? It has only one fixed Ultimate Skill, consuming 100 mana points: ‘Mimic.'”
Dak reached out to scratch Eevee’s chin, but it didn’t move further.
“But from the performance, life form indeed has slight differences, at least intelligence level has increased, indicating some awareness!”
“The same was true with the Imp Beast.”
“Perhaps this is the basic effect of the ‘Arrogance’ series Mana Cards.”
“If ‘Arrogance I’ could be upgraded to ‘Arrogance II,’ there should be further changes.”
…
At 1:10 PM.
Dak headed early to the Potions classroom but encountered Wit, Robert, and Emma on the way.
They seemed to be arguing?
