Chapter 26
Chapter 26: The Great Debt Crisis of Wit Robert
Robert Broheim never imagined that Emma Maltis could be such a venomous woman!
He originally thought this fellow townsman from the same city was reliable (someone who could lend money), but he didn’t expect that since she lent him credits, she had already been plotting in secret!
“A scheming bitch!”
He cursed loudly!
“Robert…”
Wit tried to hold him back, but failed.
Robert came from a military family; although he was foolish, he had a lot of brute strength!
While Wit inherited the bloodline of a hero, his parents’ death left him without a proper education and with poor nutrition, making him somewhat frail.
The balance of power between them might change soon, but not now.
Angry Robert’s face and neck turned red from excitement.
His roaring spit almost splashed onto Emma’s face.
But Emma remained cold, showing no signs of agitation.
…
Seeing Robert raise his meaty fist, Wit hurriedly grabbed his hand, while Emma merely smirked coldly, “Only immature people resort to fists.”
Robert’s expression faltered, his hand losing strength as he allowed Wit to grab his arm.
But his anger hadn’t subsided. He gritted his teeth, “Isn’t it just five credits? I’ll go find someone to borrow right now!”
Emma responded coolly, “We made a pact, Robert.”
Robert roared, “It’s just five points short!”
Emma shrugged indifferently, “It’s too late, Robert. It’s already the fourth double.”
The initial time was Friday at one o’clock PM.
Robert always thought that each day started after the calendar flipped, thus overlooking Friday itself.
But in reality, once the contract was signed, every day was 24 hours.
Saturday at one o’clock PM was the next day.
Sunday at one o’clock PM marked the third day.
Now, it was Monday at one o’clock PM, the fourth day!
First day doubled, second day quadrupled, third day octupled, fourth day hexadecupled.
Five times sixteen is eighty full credits!
Robert thought he only needed forty credits for the whole day.
And now they had thirty-five credits, which would increase to fifty-five after the potions class, making repayment easy!
Even if worst came to worst, borrowing just five credits would suffice!
Trading favors like that, everyone knows how to do it!
Robert picked up on those tricks.
“Calm down, Robert,” Wit finally couldn’t help saying.
From the start, he felt something was off, and now he understood.
“Even with eighty credits, we can easily repay it. One class this afternoon, two classes tomorrow morning, plus what we already have, makes ninety-five credits! More than enough!”
“Right!”
Robert calculated, then finally calmed down, “Once we repay all the credits tomorrow, Emma, we will be done with each other!”
…
“It’s just a matter of repaying debts. I thought it was something else? Looks like the trio still sticks together, even though it’s an abnormal relationship…”
Dark saw there wouldn’t be a fight, so he turned and walked away.
Just eighty credits, gone in a blink of an eye.
…
Potions…
Professor Thompson began teaching the students how to brew “Speed Mana Potions.”
This was a special potion that helped magi quickly recover three times the mana required for a regular summon, one per day.
In duels, once the matches were set, it became a long-term battle, heavily testing the magi’s total mana and recovery ability.
A “Speed Mana Potion” could often make a difference at crucial moments.
Wit and Robert worked hard to ensure they didn’t lose points and gained extra points in this class by listening attentively and doing experiments.
However, they were too eager.
During the brewing process, Robert accidentally added too much “Expanding Grass,” causing an explosion in the cauldron that blew the lid off!
To help Robert handle the overflow, Wit accidentally knocked over his own cauldron!
Both were penalized five points each and were forced to clean the classroom afterward!
…
“Professor Thompson mentioned the dangers of Expanding Grass last week, Robert,” Emma mocked as she left the classroom.
—Whether it was real mockery or not.
But in Robert’s eyes, it was malicious mockery!
“What should we do, Wit? We lost another ten points!”
After his brief anger, Robert fell into despair.
Wit checked the contract with the Selection Card.
Then he couldn’t help but say, “What kind of contract is this? Guaranteed doubling, paid in full? I thought we could pay a bit at first, easing the debt, and the next doubling wouldn’t be so bad.”
“Damn Emma! She’s been plotting against us from the start!” Robert angrily leaned the mop against the wall, then covered his head in pain.
Wit was more composed, “Looks like we need to borrow some credits from others before one o’clock PM tomorrow as a precaution.”
Robert shivered, “Again? That’s not good. If we don’t lose any points in our two morning classes tomorrow, we’ll have forty credits, plus today’s forty-five, which is enough.”
Wit shook his head, “Don’t you see? Five points per class, that’s our normal level.”
No wonder he’s the son of a hero!
…
After cleaning the classroom, Wit and Robert began borrowing money everywhere.
Their primary targets were their peers at the Knight Academy.
Andrinea was a nice girl.
She always wore her brown twin-tails, had a few harmless freckles, and smiled brightly.
Wit and Robert could barely talk to her — that was during the first week.
The first week of school was when Wit was most popular.
But the young magi eventually cooled down. As Wit gradually joined Robert in getting points deducted in every class, even being the son of ten heroes couldn’t stop the young magi from disliking him.
By the third week, no girls would approach them voluntarily.
Wit was pushed to the front, claiming his celebrity status would make it easier to borrow money.
Reluctantly, Wit asked Andrinea.
Finally understanding why they called her to the corridor, Andrinea asked, “Is it because Robert doesn’t have enough credits to buy a Magical Beast material pack?”
Wit wanted to explain but hesitated.
Robert immediately said, “Yes, Andrinea. You saw it, we spent all our credits on Mana Chess! Just lend us some. We’ll make a contract and repay within three days!”
But Andrinea only shook her head, “I’m sorry, I need to buy a Magical Beast material pack too.”
