Chapter 21: School
"Is this the school Tony arranged? It looks kind of familiar."
Looking at the slightly retro-style high school in front of her, with the large letters "Midtown High School" (based on what I've seen in Ultimate Spider-Man, since Spidey is also an inventor), Tohka felt like she'd seen it somewhere before.
Unable to figure it out, Tohka decided not to dwell on it and entered the school as instructed.
"Hello everyone, I'm Tohka Yatogami Stark."
Looking at the diverse students in the classroom, Tohka couldn't help but marvel. Unlike China, the U.S. was an immigrant country, so the students' skin colors varied greatly.
"I know her—she's from the Stark family, right?"
"Really…?"
"....."
In short, Tohka's introduction immediately sparked whispers, as the Stark name was incredibly famous in this world.
It was only natural that people were curious, but Tohka couldn't be bothered. She grabbed her things, found an empty seat, and casually sat down.
"Hmm, let's see who's here."
Saying this, Tohka opened the class roster she had received earlier and began scanning the names.
After all, these were her classmates, and she didn't want to spend the whole year silently alone.
"Peter Parker and Harry Osborn… could they be…?"
At this, Tohka quickly turned to observe the students around her, and sure enough, she spotted the two.
In a school that embraced individuality, it wasn't hard to spot Peter Parker with his glasses and nerdy demeanor.
As for Harry, being the son of wealthy Norman Osborn, Tohka had seen his photos before.
It had to be said that OsCorp was a giant in the U.S., though it fell slightly short of Tony's Stark Industries, it was still massive.
Stark Industries focused on energy and advanced technology, while OsCorp was renowned for its achievements in bioengineering.
It housed the world's most advanced pharmaceutical systems, and Norman Osborn, its head, was a legendary figure.
Although she knew these people attended this school, Tohka, a former shut-in otaku, had no intention of introducing herself.
She could tell at a glance that the current Peter Parker wasn't yet the Spider-Man patrolling New York's streets.
After all, he was still frail and scrawny, even weaker than an average person.
"Yawn." Bored and unfamiliar with anyone, Tohka simply rested her head on the desk and fell asleep during the break.
Luckily, since most people didn't know Tohka, no one bothered her.
It had to be said that the day passed just like that, and Tohka still couldn't quite adapt to the American education system.
Of course, she wasn't exactly determined to adapt—after all, she didn't necessarily need to attend school.
"Yawn, my house is still the most comfortable place after all."
After school, Tohka didn't participate in any activities and went straight back to her place.
Tony had previously offered to helped her acquire a property, but she refused.
She discovered her royalties were more than enough to buy herself an apartment in New York.
Since she lived alone, there was no need for a large house anyway.
"Ah, having my own place really is the best."
Influenced by her past life, Tohka placed significant value on the concept of owning a home.
After all, in her past life, in the "heavenly kingdom," starting a family and career always began with owning a house.
"Tony's as flashy as ever—so eager to make himself the center of attention."
On TV, Tohka saw Tony's performance, which was none other than the opening scene of Iron Man 2.
If her guess was right, the second movie's villain would be making his move soon.
"So troublesome… whatever, I won't worry about it. If things can't be resolved, I'll step in later. For now, it's still too early. Time to play some games..."
Bored, Tohka fully embraced her otaku nature, playing games endlessly at home.
As for the second book Tony kept urging her to write, she was already halfway through it.
The next day, Tohka arrived at school on time. And then…
"Hey, kid, what're you hiding for?"
As soon as she walked in, Tohka saw Peter Parker being bullied by Flash Thompson, who would later become a fan of his as Agent Venom.
Peter had once again been stuffed into a locker, making Tohka raise an eyebrow.
However, she didn't step in—after all, she wasn't familiar with him.
Besides, if she handled Flash herself, Peter's reputation at school would likely plummet further.
"Hi, Tohka."
As she walked in, Tohka saw Harry greeting her.
It had to be said, as the future heir to OsCorp, Harry had excellent manners and a natural aristocratic aura.
Harry hadn't greeted Tohka yesterday, partly because she arrived late and immediately fell asleep at her desk, and partly because they weren't familiar with each other, so he went back to look up her information.
"I never expected you'd write such an interesting novel."
Saying this, Harry pulled out the first book of Harry Potter that Tohka had written.
"Uh, well, it was just something I wrote on a whim."
Tohka wasn't surprised that Harry knew about it. Although she hadn't made any public announcements, she hadn't exactly hidden it either, so it would be easy to find out.
At the same time, she felt that Harry simply wanted to be friends, though their conversation wasn't exactly quiet, so...
"Wow, Tohka, is this book really yours? Can you sign it for me?"
Harry wasn't bothered by it, but that didn't mean others weren't interested. After hearing their conversation, Tohka quickly became the center of attention, with a group of people coming over to ask for her autograph.
Of course, there were also some who just wanted to join in the excitement.
"Uh, fine. Just don't crowd around, I'll sign for you."
Looking helplessly at the crowd surrounding her, she was glad she wasn't always in a state of complete brain freeze.
Otherwise... she might've lost it from being surrounded by so many people, especially if she got embarrassed.
If that happened, well, she'd probably be labeled as a freak.
"What's going on here?!"
In the end, Tohka lost it while being surrounded, but luckily, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.
"So, who exactly is Tohka?"
Peter, who had just crawled out of the locker, whispered to Harry sitting next to him.
When Peter entered earlier, he nearly jumped out of his skin at the sight of Tohka.
