Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 85: Chapter 83: The Legion Librarius Project, and Russ

"Lord Axis, strictly speaking, would this son of mine count as a xenos?" Magnus looked at Axis and asked.

"How could he be a xenos?"

"He's overwhelmingly human by genetic makeup. You could even take him in for a gene test.

"His gene purity is higher than some abhumans, and as you know, the way humans distinguish xenos is by looking at the skull." Axis smiled a suspicious smile as he explained.

If it was a first-generation Saibaman, then sure, it would absolutely count as a xenos.

But once you added Primarch blood and/or a gene-seed, it wasn't quite the same anymore.

Honestly, it was a shame. His very first Saibaman had been cultivated in the most traditional way.

If he'd mixed in Russ's blood back then, maybe he wouldn't have wasted that Saibaman seed.

It's true, Saibamen could produce their own seeds after reaching maturity, but those seeds were born in the Warhammer universe, not in the original Dragon Ball world.

And, in some sense, the Saibaman seeds produced in the Warhammer universe weren't so different from Ork spores.

Axis still had about twenty Saibaman seeds left, and he didn't plan to hand one out to every single Primarch.

His creations weren't free, after all.

Maybe in the future, he could try planting some on Catachan, just to see the effect.

But as for the rest of the Saibaman seeds, Axis intended to store them carefully.

From time to time, Axis would nourish the seeds with his own Ki, keeping them as lively as possible.

Normally, he kept them suspended in a stasis field to preserve them indefinitely.

"Aha! That's right! Then he's my son, my gene-progeny, he's a native human of Prospero, born and raised.

"Wouldn't you agree, Axis?" Magnus said, smiling.

"What are you talking about, Lord Magnus? Isn't that your son right beside you? How should I know where he's from?" Axis replied with an innocent look, but the creepy smile was still there.

"Hahaha! Axis, you're quite the man.

"Come by and chat with me more often, I'll teach you some tricks for using Warp energy." Magnus said with a grin.

The two nodded knowingly to each other.

This was something that could never be revealed to the Emperor, or at least, not yet.

Axis wasn't yet comfortable laying all his cards infront of the father of humanity.

Not to mention, interactions with xenos, and researching xenos technology was something the Emperor had zero tolerance for, whether it involved Chaos or not.

Even a Primarch wouldn't be spared if he violated this Imperial Truth. Retribution from the Emperor would surely follow.

As for the Saibamen, aside from the very first one, the next two were easier to deal with. Their only differences were green or red skin, nothing too alarming.

Axis had once seen an Imperial recruitment poster full of abhumans and mutants. Some of them looked even stranger than most aliens!

"For the time being, you and your companions can enjoy yourselves on my planet. If you need anything, just come to me at once," Magnus said.

From here on out, Magnus planned to keep everything that had happened here today a secret.

Anyone who had witnessed the experiment, Axis's cleansing and evolution of perfect Secondary heart, Axis helping his legion create new recruits, anyone who had even helped move materials, Magnus intended to wipe their memories with his psychic power.

Any mortals involved would be forbidden from ever leaving Prospero. His sons could be trusted not to leak the secret though.

"Lord Magnus, for the next phase of gene-seed cultivation, should I help you myself, or should your son handle it?" Axis asked.

"I think, if you could work together with my son, we'd be able to make the most perfect forms of Organs.

"We'd also be able to increase the number of new recruits," Magnus replied.

Even with this special gene-progeny, Magnus had no intention of letting Axis leave just yet.

He had a lot of things to verify and recruits to train.

This special son of his only existed because of Axis, but his Ki wasn't as pure as Axis's; Mgnus had understood during the brief time he had observed the two.

So Axis still needed to help.

The perfect gene-seeds had to eventually replace all the mutated ones.

"All right, I guess I'll just have to do more work since I'm the capable one," Axis shrugged.

"I won't let you work for nothing, Axis! I'll give you a special gift, and one for your Space Wolves as well!" Magnus said.

"Oh? What kind of gift?"

"I can help you train a group of Space Marine psykers for your Space Wolves.

"Psykers would be a huge asset to your legion. They could foresee many dangers in advance, even predict exactly when enemies would arrive, use powerful psychic spells in battle, teleport, cast all sorts of offensive powers, and defend the legion from Warp entities," Magnus said, beaming.

Axis was stunned.

Wasn't this basically the future Librarius? But it shouldn't appear this early, at least not until decades later, after that special council.

Originally, the legions didn't have Librarians.

It was only after Magnus, Sanguinius, and Jaghatai Khan proposed the Librarius Project that the Thousand Sons were allowed to establish Librarius departments in each legion.

At first, Librarians were welcomed or watched closely by the White Scars, Night Lords, Ultramarines, Thousand Sons, Word Bearers, Salamanders, Alpha Legion, Dark Angels, World Eaters, and Raven Guard.

But there were Primarchs who fundamentally opposed the use of psykers among Space Marines, at least in their own legions.

The Iron Warriors, Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, and Death Guard were staunch opponents.

The Space Wolves in particular insisted that their own version of Librarians, the Rune Priests, weren't psykers, and that their power came from the natural energies of Fenris, not from the Warp.

But that was just self-deception!

There were legends that the world of Fenris had its own consciousness, and those who could commune with nature and wield supernatural power were thought to command the forces of nature.

But in all honesty, all of that was just psychic power, packaged under a different name, with a different nature. In the original timeline, Russ was strongly opposed to psykers.

But Russ himself possessed psychic abilities.

In the Battle of Prospero, the reason he was able to defeat Magnus was partly thanks to his own psychic power.

Now, with Axis's appearance, Russ had awakened his psychic abilities ahead of schedule.

Though his foster father had never shown these powers, nor explicitly mentioned them to Axis, Axis understood that Russ possessed psychic power.

The man just kept it well hidden.

No one knew what Russ thought in the original timeline, but at least now, Russ wasn't as hostile toward psykers.

The role Librarians would play in the legions, or later, the chapters, was self-evident.

They'd become an invaluable asset.

"I think I should discuss this with my father, Russ," Axis said.

"No problem, I'll talk to him. This plan is extremely beneficial. It can only help the entire Legion, with not much of any downsides," Magnus said.

He had already planned to unite a few of his brothers and present the Librarius Project to the Emperor, with the Thousand Sons taking the lead and helping each Legion train their own psykers.

Originally, the first person he'd intended to persuade wasn't Russ.

But since Russ was here, and things had gone well between them, Magnus decided he might as well discuss it with Russ first.

Axis nodded.

The two of them left the secret laboratory together.

Magnus looked at the new son of his.

The child really did resemble him!

"From today onward, I grant you a new name. You shall be called Gris," Magnus said after a moment's thought.

"Thank you, father for giving me a name," the 3 meter giant, replied with a bow. His fists were clenched, and even shaking a little, like a young child getting his birthday present form his strict dad.

The rough looking giant felt excitement in his heart that he couldn't quite describe.

"I've already notified the armory. Go there first and collect a set of power armor, your weapons and equipment, and meet your brothers." In that instant, Magnus had already used his powerful psychic powers to notify the Techmarines.

He had also implanted some false memories in a portion of the people on Prospero.

From this day forward, no one would know that Gris had been brought here by Axis.

Everyone would believe he was a native of Fenris, who had undergone Astartes transformation.

Gris nodded to Magnus and turned to leave.

With his son taken care of, Magnus and Axis made their way to Russ's quarters.

"My brother, your little cub helped me greatly this time. I'm returning him to you now. I hope you and your companions will stay and be my guests for a while," Magnus said.

"I'm just glad he was of any help," Russ replied with a smile, the previous displeasures were all forgotten.

"My brother, I have a rather big plan I'd like to talk to you about," Magnus said.

"What plan?"

"I call it the Legion Librarius. The idea is to cultivate a certain number of Space Marines in each Legion who possess psychic powers and can wield the Warp," Magnus explained enthusiastically.

He didn't notice that Russ's expression was growing darker by the second.

"That's enough, brother. Psychic powers are extremely dangerous; and they're a form of evil," Russ replied.

Not only did this answer surprise Magnus, even Axis was caught off guard!

Axis had thought that, with his influence, Russ's attitude toward psykers would have improved quite a bit.

After all, psychic power came from the Warp, and the Warp was extremely dangerous.

"Why? Brother, you should know how valuable psykers are to the Imperium.

"Sure, their power comes from the Warp, but as long as it's used wisely, nothing will go wrong."

Magnus looked baffled.

Russ's own son had begged him to help gain psychic abilities, and yet Russ himself wanted nothing to do with it.

"Father always said psychic power was extremely dangerous. Every time we travel through the Warp, well, never mind.

"The point is, psychic power is nothing good. The Imperium may need psykers in some places, but I'll never deliberately raise psykers within my own Legion, as my children," Russ replied.

The reason he was so opposed to psychic power was that, every time he traveled through the Warp, he felt a tremendous presence.

Even more disturbing, that evil seemed to be calling out to him.

It was a wild, primal urge that Russ never wanted to be a part of.

He absolutely did not want to answer the call of that insane version of himself within the Warp.

As a result, his attitude toward psykers was never very positive.

"So, am I evil? Is our father evil? The two of us are the most powerful psykers among all of humanity," Magnus retorted.

Russ wasn't sure what to say to magnus.

He knew there were issues with Magnus's gene-seed.

"It's different. Father's psychic power is different. His power feels holy, pure," Russ insisted.

"That's just because you haven't seen our father's true nature. If you look closely, you'll realize he's even colder and darker than you ever imagined," Magnus said with a cold snort.

As the greatest psyker in the Imperium besides the Emperor himself, perhaps even approaching the Emperor's level, Magnus could clearly see what the Emperor's projection looked like in the Warp.

To be blunt, that power was even more terrifying than his own.

Magnus was simply powerful, but the Emperor was something else entirely.

"Don't speak nonsense, Magnus. Our father is humanity's saviour," Russ snapped.

"I just wanted to help you, to offer you a gesture of goodwill.

"If you won't accept it, then never mind, consider it a mistake on my part," Magnus said, preparing to leave.

Before he went, he gave Axis a meaningful glance, as if to say, 'You'd better hide your psychic powers well.'

"Wait, Lord Magnus, there are things better left out in the open. Many misunderstandings happen precisely because people don't talk things through," Axis quickly stepped in to stop them.

After all, it was often a lack of communication that led to tragedy. If something needed to be said, it was better to just say it.

"Father! In fact, my secret dealings with Magnus involved psychic power.

"I asked Magnus to help me create a projection of my consciousness in the wrap, which is connected to me, allowing me to manipulate Warp-based psychic energy," Axis admitted.

"What! What did you say?"

Russ' eyes widened.

It had never even crossed his mind that Axis would want to do anything with the warp.

How could he? Psychic power was and is an inherently evil force, but Ki, which Axis wielded was an extremely pure force, tied to the essence of like itself.

In a way, it was like a divine power brought by the world itself to contend against the malignant forces of warp.

"Why would you throw yourself into something so vile? Did Magnus put you up to this?" Russ demanded.

It was Axis' first time seeing his old man like this. He was now certain of it; the man knew something he didn't.

He answered firmly.

"It was my choice, and I asked for it myself."
