Chapter 86: Chapter 84: The Warp, and the Plot for the Power of the God of Order
Russ froze for two seconds upon hearing these words.
Then he looked at Axis with some irritation.
Did the kid even know what he was doing? Russ doubted it.
"Axis, Father once told me your Ki energy could effectively resist the powers of the Warp.
"The power of the Warp is an extremely corrupt force, as you have already experienced.
"In that regard, you are the purest among us. You could have preserved the purity of humanity.
"Yet you willingly gave up this purity.
"Discarding the innate talent for resisting the Warp, you chose to embrace such a power!" Russ spoke slowly, deliberately. The veins in his face and neck were twitching, yet his voice remained a low rumble.
However, the deep disappointment hidden within the man's voice couldn't be hidden.
Axis had to take a deep breath.
"Then, Father, do you truly understand the Warp?
"Do you know what truly dwells there?
"Do you understand what sort of enemies you are about to face?" Axis retorted, his voice like his fathers, calm and measured.
Axis scoffed at the so-called Imperial Truth the Emperor championed, was it really right?
The Emperor truly was such a great figure, sacrificing everything for all mankind, tormented for ten thousand years on that Golden Throne for the sake of humanity!
In the end, he had become something neither human nor ghost, surviving on the lives of countless psykers.
There was even an unknown entity within him, one that could break free at any moment and, just like Slaanesh once did, devour the souls of all humanity in one gulp to ascend as a god.
After ten thousand years, humanity had all but marched toward extinction.
The threat of the Warp was immense.
But even if the Warp didn't exist, those four piles of filth wouldn't just disappear. They would remain, watching over humanity's development by some means.
The less he told his sons about the truth, the more likely the Primarchs would be corrupted! The more they were kept in the dark, the easier it was for the Warp to exploit them.
In truth, the Emperor never had much faith in the Primarchs. Even Horus, whom he trusted most, had no real understanding of the truth of the Warp. He only knew there were different factions of Warp entities, but he had no idea what made their daemons distinct, nor what truly lay behind them.
Axis understood the dangers of the Warp far better than any Primarch.
The Warp wasn't something you could just ignore and hope it would go away, or believe that not believing in it would keep you safe.
The four Chaos Gods basically embodied the ultimate forces of the Immaterium. They were immortal and indestructible.
From the moment they came into being, they fused with the Warp itself, unkillable, unending.
Although they were insulators to the physical universe, they could interfere in countless ways, corrupting anything they wished.
These four beings represented the upper limits of power in the Warhammer universe!
Given that, if he wasn't sure whether he'd be corrupted by the Warp's power, Axis would never have recklessly sought out psychic power.
But if his Ki and his angel halo about his souls' head could truly purify and resist the evil of the Warp, then Axis would rather choose to face that power head-on.
Only by knowing your enemy could you ever hope to defeat them.
If he only developed Ki in the material universe, if he focused solely on unlocking Super Saiyan forms, how far could he really go?
Even a mere burst of rage could leave him open to Khorne's influence.
And if a "Legendary Super Saiyan" couldn't release his anger, how much combat power could he actually muster?
The real issue was Chaos corruption.
Axis was no saint who held only one goal in his mind and strove toward it with everything he had.
If the four Chaos Gods truly set their minds to seducing him, Axis doubted he could resist forever.
It wasn't a matter of the Warp's psychic corruption, but rather of emotion, of the heart.
You couldn't guarantee your mind would remain pure, free of desire.
Joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, sadness, fear… these emotions coexisted with and defined what you were as a human. Without these, how was one different from the dead?
One misstep and the Chaos Gods of the Warp could seize you.
There was no such thing as being on guard against them forever.
If his Ki couldn't effectively resist the corruption of the Warp, Axis would choose to develop quietly in the material universe, maybe even keep a pariah close by and act as an obedient Custodian, never dreaming of defeating the four Chaos Gods.
That was simply unrealistic.
Unless you possessed powers ccapable of destroying entire dimension, there was simply no way to kill those four.
Besides, the main enemies of those four weren't even the Emperor or humanity, they fought among themselves.
It was an Eternal Game of Chaos, and the warp itself was the real battlefield of the Chaos Gods.
The Super Saiyans of the Dragon Ball universe fought fiercely, destroying planets like it was nothing. But get punched into a star and they'd still die, and they couldn't achieve true immortality.
The only way forward in power for Axis was to possess God Ki!
Finding five Saiyans and transforming into a Super Saiyan God was never going to work in this universe.
Even having hybrid Saiyan offspring with human women wouldn't change this.
If so, Axis would have to seek another path.
Vegeta, for instance, hadn't become a Super Saiyan God through any ritual.
Instead, he achieved it by relying on Whis's training and Ultra Ego by harnessing Beerus's power of destruction.
This was precisely why Axis had chosen to make contact with the Warp, because in the material universe, there was no such thing as God Ki or any form of Divine power for him to come in contact with, much less learn to control.
Even the C'tan only wielded the most primordial forces of the physical universe, not true divine power.
Only when one's psychic might was strong enough could they truly resist the evils of the Warp.
Relying on his own Ki, as well as the angelic halo above his soul, Axis could better, more effectively resist the power of the Warp!
He would thus gain the opportunity to comprehend this power in the future, and only by mastering it could he hope to truly defeat those four beings.
Otherwise, no matter how powerful he became, he would still be little more than a particularly strong wild ape before them.
"The power of the Warp is incomparably evil. Every time I travelled through the Warp, I could feel that evil. It was and is utterly savage, primal malice," Russ said.
If it weren't for his ability to sense that terrifying evil, he wouldn't have been so resistant to the Warp.
He had also witnessed many psykers becoming gateways between the material universe and the Warp, summoning those horrifying Warp creatures into realspace.
Some psykers on certain worlds even used their powers for evil, dominating ordinary humans at will, or even crushing a Space Marine from afar.
For them, such feats were child's play.
"My brother, Warp is indeed a terrifying force, but I think Axis is right. You truly don't understand it, not at all," Magnus said.
Magnus knew what Russ was talking about, for he had experienced something similar while exploring the Warp. It was a different sense, as if something was constantly calling out to him.
At first, he'd thought it was that blue-feathered, bird-headed figure trying to tempt him.
But later, he realized that wasn't the case!
Now, it seemed that all Primarchs shared this feeling, just that, none of them ever spoke about it.
"I only know that Father is trying to protect us, to shield all of humanity from those daemons," Russ said.
"Tust me, father. Everything I do is for the greater good, to oppose the Warp. The Emperor has told me things, secrets you know nothing about, Father," Axis said meaningfully.
It was true—the Emperor had intended for Axis to gain some understanding of the Warp, and his guide in this matter was Kasha. After they'd laid their cards on the table, Kasha had told Axis many things, including Warp secrets he himself had never known.
Before Slaanesh's birth, the Eldar gods had belonged to the Aeldari Pantheon. They weren't as evil as the Chaos Gods, while still being warp entities tied to the old ones.
Only after the Eldar fell into decadence and decline did Slaanesh's birth destroy them.
Axis planned to use his own power to purify the taint of the Warp, and then try to contact the surviving Aeldari Pantheon, to borrow their strength.
For example, he had considered the imprisoned Eldar goddess, Isha. He intended to seek her divine power, to find a way to acquire the power of Aeldari Pantheon.
Combined with his own physical form in the material universe, Axis intended to become a being on par with the Emperor, or even stronger!
"Russ, all I did was craft a soul projection for Axis, so he could draw some Warp energy. Axis's Ki has a strong resistance to the Warp, he's like a purification device in that regard.
"As long as the amount he extracts at one time isn't too much, he's safe," Magnus said.
Axis was far safer than any other psyker.
At that moment, Axis cooperated fully, displaying his psychic powers.
He didn't just rely on Ki to filter Warp energy, he also possessed a powerful, tangible soul and an angel halo capable of purifying Warp energy.
A surge of golden-green psychic power radiated from Axis, this psychic force, touched by his energy, was nothing like the purely evil and chaotic Warp power.
Russ could clearly feel it.
This was a completely different force: it felt righteous and balanced, without the tiniest bit of evil he'd expected.
Only now did Russ relax a little.
"I hope the decision you two make today is the right one. Axis, whatever you do, never let yourself be seduced by the power in that realm," Russ said, a bit at ease, but still with a stern tone.
"Father, if you'd like to know more, you can come with me to meet Kasha.
"Kasha is the one the Emperor left at my side, specifically so I could learn about the Warp," Axis said.
Axis decided to pull Russ in as well, to let him learn the truth of the Warp.
After all, Russ had psychic powers too.
Besides, the Primarchs themselves originated from the Warp.
"Alright!" Russ nodded.
Since his father had already arranged for someone to impart this knowledge to Axis, Russ felt that, as his son, he should also be entitled to know.

have a great day/night!
