Chapter 94: Do You Really Love Him?
After Dante finished his conversation with Bobby, he stepped away to let Susie speak with him alone.
"Did that idiot really steal your heart?"
Susie smiled slightly and nodded. "I feel like Dante is right. We both knew that at some point, I'd have to leave."
This wasn't the ideal moment to discuss such matters, but given the state of her family, Susie found no issue with making things clear.
"Are you sure he'll win this battle?" Bobby knew that even though the High Order had granted Dante permission to exterminate the Corleone family, they still had money and power. They would hire the best assassins that money could buy.
Susie glanced at Dante and said confidently, "I'm sure he'll win."
…
[2:30 AM]
As midnight approached, Dante, determined to finish off the Corleone family once and for all, personally chose this day to act.
Given the current situation, if he delayed any further, he wasn't sure how much longer it would take before the Corleones sent more assassins to harm the Glass family.
"Have the rats been located?" Dante checked the time and asked Crocodile, who was beside him, watching everything from a high vantage point.
"All the assassins in this area have been mobilized. What else can we do?" Crocodile replied. It was evident that any armored vehicle approaching the Corleone hideout would be attacked by hired killers.
"Just send the charges to Eddie and have him handle them en route. The teams in the field must eliminate the agents without exposing themselves too much. The more they eliminate, the better rewards they'll receive." Dante's strategy was simple: use Eddie to expose the nearby assassins protecting the Corleone family.
"Yes, sir!" Crocodile nodded and quickly left to relay the orders.
"We'll kill them before they even realize it," Susie said, watching as Crocodile adjusted the scope of his sniper rifle and aimed at the street Eddie would pass through, ensuring precise targeting.
…
Under the starlight, a truck prepared an ambush for the vehicle transporting Eddie.
A squad of ten men quickly disembarked from the truck and lined up. A man stepped out of the passenger seat, and the ten men saluted him.
"The mission we're carrying out: Locate Dan and eliminate him. He's an extremely dangerous man who could be the cause of your downfall if you don't take him seriously. Find him, take him down, and send a photo of his corpse."
Another truck drove off, leaving only the sound of its engine fading into the distance.
The man giving instructions was Carlo, formerly the bodyguard of Stanley Johnston. Now operating in the field, Carlo was known for his strict demeanor.
As Stanley's right-hand man, Carlo understood the importance of eliminating Dan before he reached the location where Vito Corleone, an invaluable figure, was hiding. Failure wasn't an option. If they didn't succeed, Carlo, Stanley, and Vito would face dire consequences.
"Zz… Send the assassins to their strategic positions. The rest will move in groups of four to different tactical points."
"Yes, sir!"
Following his orders, the soldiers began moving. A sniper climbed to a high position, while a man with a machine gun set up with his assistant in an open, well-lit area. The other eight men, including Carlo, armed themselves and took positions inside nearby houses to prepare an ambush.
Observing all this from his hiding spot, Dante frowned.
He realized he had underestimated the lengths the Corleone family would go to protect themselves, but in his eyes, their efforts still weren't enough.
"Mafias in this region are nothing compared to Latin cartels."
Dante eyed two of the search teams and identified the locations of the enemy snipers. One was stationed in a building with a partially wooden roof.
At that moment, Dante instructed his own snipers to target strategic objectives.
"Zz… Take out the sniper first."
Following the order, one of his agents prepared to eliminate the sniper directly.
The second target was the machine gunner. Once all positions were set, they waited for the right moment.
Dante had deliberately chosen this route to minimize casualties and ensure his team could work more effectively.
When the vehicle carrying Dante appeared, Susie—who, to everyone's surprise, was also armed with a sniper rifle—aimed carefully and waited for her cue.
"Zz… Now!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Amid the gunfire, Dante seized the moment to take out the machine gunner during the chaos below.
"Zz… Two assassins with rocket launchers in the alley at ten o'clock."
Bang! Boom!
Explosions and gunfire erupted as the two enemies were eliminated. Dante, who was only marginally involved, continued to oversee the battlefield.
